New Year’s resolutions that will help your allergies
As the new year rolls around, everyone creates their own laundry list of resolutions to change for the better. One of the most popular resolutions is having a cleaner living area. Whether it’s for your own sanity so you don’t have to panic every time your doorbell rings, a clean living space also means a healthy living space. Allergens are constantly entering your home--most times without you ever knowing. Here are four things that will lead to having a cleaner (and less sniffly) home.
Regularly vacuuming your carpets - Carpet is dust and pollen’s favorite home. By vacuuming your carpets regularly (instead of just before the in-laws come over), you will be keeping a large amount of your home allergy-free. It’s also a good idea to get your carpet professionally steam cleaned at least twice a year. Don’t forget to vacuum your couch and chairs too!
Wash curtains and dust blinds regularly - If carpet is dust and pollen’s favorite home. By vacuuming your carpets regularly blinds are their vacation homes. Regularly cleaning these will knock the pollen off and will help you breathe around your windows and doors.
Regularly wash and brush pets - A lot of people don’t worry about their pets causing allergies because they’re not actually allergic to the pets. However, pets’ fur essentially makes them a walking carpet to absorb all the allergens in the air when they’re outside. A lot people will wait until pets gets stinky or sticky before cleaning them. You should consistently brush and wash your pets to keep the allergens off them.
Get a HEPA purifier - The best type of cleaning is the kind that you don’t have to do yourself. These will remove up to 99% of the airborne allergens in your home and all you need to worry about it turning it on and changing the filters when they get dirty.
A lot of people see their resolutions dissolve before the groundhog has a chance to take a look at his shadow. By making these small steps as part of your daily or weekly routine, you’ll be breathing clear and living clean.
